Position Summary The Academic Center for Excellence (ACE) Tutor/Peer Mentor plays a vital role in supporting student success both academically and personally. This position provides tutoring in designated subject areas and offers peer mentoring to help students develop study skills, manage their time effectively, and connect with campus resources. Services are provided in person and online, with an emphasis on creating a supportive learning environment that encourages persistence and completion. Beyond academics, peer mentors guide students in navigating college life, building confidence, and fostering accountability. They serve as approachable role models who promote a positive attitude toward learning, personal, and professional growth.
Duties & Responsibilities Essential Job Functions
Deliver academic tutoring services in assigned subject area(s) in person and/or online.
Assess and address the academic support needs of students.
Provide peer mentoring on study strategies, time management, and resource navigation.
Maintain regular office hours in the Academic Center for Excellence (ACE Lab) as approved by the ACE Coordinator.
Offer lab assistance and course-related learning support.
Complete and submit accurate timesheets and session reports with suggestions for improvement for the tutor.
Support co-curricular assessment by collecting and reporting relevant tutoring and mentoring outcomes.
Contribute to Luna Community College goals by supporting student retention, persistence, and completion through tutoring and mentoring efforts.
Document and report measurable student learning outcomes and feedback to help track progress toward institutional retention and success targets.
Participate in performance evaluations that include student usage data, retention metrics, and contributions to student engagement initiatives.
Follow all tutoring program policies, procedures, and academic guidelines.
Participate in required semi-annual training and professional development activities in effort to achieve set student learning outcomes.
Promote awareness, and collect data on the use of campus resources to enhance student success.
Adapt instruction to accommodate diverse learning styles and strategies via post study session evaluations.
Use technology effectively with various online learning platforms.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience - High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Demonstrated proficiency in designated subject area(s) required.
- Current enrollment at Luna Community College or completion of at least one semester at LCC preferred.
